Privacy Policy
Qalma (“the App”) helps you find a Quran passage from a single English word. This policy explains what information is handled when you use the App.
Summary
- No accounts or sign-in.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- The word you submit is sent to our servers so we can return a passage and audio.
- Preferences you set (theme, reciter, text size) stay on your device.
Information we process
Word you enter. When you submit a word, that text is sent to our API so we can match a Quran passage, generate a short search intent, and return Arabic text, translation, commentary preview, and recitation audio timing.
Technical request data. Like most online services, our servers may receive standard connection data such as IP address, approximate time of the request, and basic device/app identifiers needed to operate and protect the service (for example rate limiting).
On-device preferences. Settings such as reciter choice, theme, and accessibility sizes are stored locally on your device. They are not used to build an advertising profile.
Recently heard passages. The App may keep a short local history of passages you have already heard so it can offer different results next time. This history stays on your device unless included in a request as an exclusion list for that session.
How we use information
- Provide the App’s core features (matching, content, audio).
- Keep the service reliable and prevent abuse.
- Improve matching quality in aggregate where feasible.
Third-party services
To deliver the App we use:
- OpenAI — to interpret your word and help select a relevant passage.
- Quran Foundation — for Quran text, translation, commentary, and recitation audio.
- Hosting and database providers — to run the API and store indexed passage data (not your account profile; the App has no accounts).
These providers process data only as needed to provide their services to us. Their own privacy policies also apply to their processing.
Data retention
Submitted words and related server logs are retained only as long as needed to operate, secure, and improve the service, then deleted or aggregated. On-device preferences remain until you clear app data or uninstall the App.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your choices
You can stop sending words by not using the App. You can clear local preferences by resetting or uninstalling the App. For privacy questions or deletion requests related to server logs, contact us at abdulkhancs@gmail.com.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
